"Helen Hulick was a Los Angeles kindergarten teacher who was a witness to a burglary in 1938. When she went to testify in the case as a helpful citizen, she was sent to jail for five days for wearing pants inside the courthouse. Helen stated that she didn't wear skirts or own a dress.
